With over 200 pet shops, Pets Place is the market leader in the Netherlands. In the 70 branches in the south of the country, the formula is combined with Boerenbond. Pets Place and Boerenbond offer everything for animals and the garden.
The formulas of these chains, which are owned by the IJsvogel Groep, are currently being renewed. Stenfert Interieur & Design was selected to redesign one of the two pilot locations: the Pets Place and Boerenbond branch in Waalwijk. Patrick Nathoenie, formula manager with the IJsvogel Groep, talks about the refurbishment.
Dog wash and fish theatre
“If you are the market leader, you want to show it. We started by modernising and aligning the logos of both chains. We then looked at the shops. We want to focus more on customer experience, so that customers enjoy shopping with us. Many people experience a visit to a pet shop as a mini outing. We wanted to enhance that feeling.
With a rodent house, a fish theatre, birds, hamsters and rabbits, the Waalwijk branch has really been transformed into a paradise for animal friends. Every six weeks there’s something new to see on the Theme Square in the middle of the shop. We also offer various additional animal services. Pet owners always used to be able to ask us for advice about their pets’ health. In Waalwijk, we now have an animal pharmacy with specially trained staff. For questions about your pet’s diet, we have a weight consultant. Does a customer want to wash his dog? Then there’s the dog wash, where you can wash and dry your dog.”
Together with Stenfert
“Stenfert may be small, but they think big. They produced most of the wood and steel interior elements for us. The rodent house, the cupboards and tables … All custom work. The great thing about Stenfert is that they know about retail. It’s a dynamic field and Stenfert responds brilliantly to all the developments. Plus: they make sure that we keep both feet firmly on the ground. You can think up all kinds of amazing concepts, but they must be feasible in practice.
We are delighted with the end result. We have more customers visiting the shop, we do more business and customers return more often. And that’s ultimately what we do it for.”
